In this post I’ve rounded up my 4 best pumpkin patch picture tips to cut back on the overwhelm and help you get some shots you love. Let’s make the most of your family time!
Trying to get that Instagram feed worthy shot? Let me tell ya, sis- it’s easier than you think. Candid shots are SO much better than staged ones. Let your little ones run free and catch them in their element.

#1 Capture them in the moment

Remember how we agreed candid shots are the goal? Keep your eye out (and you phone) while your babies explore the magic of the pumpkin patch. Pulling a wagon full of pumpkins? Get it. Running their fingers over the bumps on the ugliest pumpkin? Yes ma’am.
Portrait mode on iPhone is GOLDEN tool for getting beautiful close up shots!
#2 You have to get in the pictures
I know, friend. Sometimes it’s easier to just hide behind the camera and squeal over how cute your kids are. Like, “I made them!”, but if you’re focused on growing a brand, community, and social platforms, people need to know who you are.
It’s also cool to see you in those candid shots! You can tell a funny story about what’s happening in the reality of the picture or a sweet memory from your childhood pumpkin patch trips.

#3 Teach your “Insta Husband”
Or Insta friend. Sister. Whoever is taking pictures of you and your babies. They need to know ahead of time what you’re looking for!
If you want a shot that doesn’t have a finger over the lens of your iPhone, trust me on this one. If you want a picture of you walking through the rows of pumpkins with the sun setting in the background and doves fluttering above you, they need to know.
Without your hopes and expectations laid out, you might go home disappointed with the pictures they snapped.
PS the number one tip to give them? Take AS MANY pictures in a row as possible. Travis will literally just hold his finger down and take a ton in a row for me to go through later.
#4 Have fun & don’t stress
If a random person photobombs your picture you can photoshop them out. You can fix just about anything with a good preset and editing. Soak up the memories you’re making!
I use the free app “Lightroom” to edit my pictures (that are all taken from my iPhone). To photoshop random people and things out, I use a free app called Photoshop Fix and the Healing setting with “spot heal”.
So, throw on your cutest fall outfits and go run around together. Get on the hayride, chase some chickens around, and pick out as many pumpkins as your Suburban can hold. And please, don’t take pictures the WHOLE time. You can’t soak up all the moments if you’re stuck behind your phone screen.
So really, my number one tip? Get the shots you need and then put your phone away. Get a few videos on your phone to add to Insta Stories later. That way you can thoughtfully add captions and music without losing time with your family!
