By now you’ve probably realized that the best way to grow a genuine following on Instagram and your blog is by creating real, valuable content. So, what if you don’t know how to get started? I’m sharing 3 Steps to Clarity in your Content Plan to help narrow down what you should be focusing on when it comes to giving your people what they want to hear. Buckle up, take some notes, and let’s go!
1) What do you want to be known for?
This is honestly a deep question, but is SO helpful when you’re narrowing down what you want to write about on your blog or in Instagram captions. Another great one: how do you want to make people feel?
Brainstorm a list of words that you want your community to associate with your brand. How do you want them to feel when they see a new post from you? Or see an email pop in their inbox that you sent?
Some of my words for my content are inspired, ready to take action, capable, cared for, and excited. I want you to be able to walk away from reading something I write with the tools to make it happen and a little pep talk to make sure you know it’s possible, (because it is!)
2) Who are you writing to?
When you’re creating a content plan, keep in mind who will actually be reading that content! A stay at home mom isn’t a narrow enough category. We need to go deep and understand why she’s wanting to know more from you.
Let’s pretend you’re creating recipes and posting them on your Instagram and blog. If you’re sharing recipes that are labor intensive and take hours to make, a busy stay at home mom isn’t really your audience. Moms want fast, mostly healthy, and something that makes a great leftover, right? So something like “20 minute healthy dinners” would be more accurate.
Keep your reader in mind when you’re planning what to talk about so they’re more likely to become loyal followers and share your account with their friends that are in that same niche. When something’s good, we can’t help but share!
3) How can you create consistency?
When your community knows what they can expect from you, they’ll start to rely on hearing from you. When you have a plan, you’re more likely to follow through instead of winging it! Win-win, right?
How often are you going to post to your blog? What about Instagram? Are you using Pinterest to grow your traffic organically?
The point isn’t to choose overwhelm. Choose a schedule you’re comfortable with and know you can always post more when the time is right! Ideally, minimum three posts on Instagram a week and a bi-weekly blog post are great starting places.
