Our hormones do this really fun rubber band thing

Our hormones do this really fun rubber band thing after we have a baby. They’re through the roof when we’re pregnant and then BAM- delivery.

And then the bottom falls out and you’re either crying about 1) how much you just LOVE your kids 2) crying because you don’t know how you’re gonna do this, or 3) crying at that commercial where a dog family drives off in a Subaru.

Like, no middle ground here.

The fourth trimester is rude like that.

I remember around four weeks postpartum I just couldn’t shake this weight in my chest. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t take a deep breath.

So I had to self-reflect and mother myself, on top of mothering three kids four and under.

My game plan was this:
+Give myself grace.
+Communicate that something wasn’t right to Trav and my close friends.
+Pray endlessly. Immerse myself in scripture and lean into God’s word.
+Move my body because endorphins are such a healing thing.
+Cut processed sugar and mindfully eat.
+Look at my routine to see how I can use my time in a way that serves my family AND ME.

Annie is 15 weeks now and I told Travis the other night while we prepped dinner together how I felt like I could breathe again.

I could finally be at home in my body.

If you’re struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, whatever funk it is- go tell your husband. Go tell your mama, your sister, whoever is in your direct support circle that can help you make a game plan.

You are not broken. Hormones are wild and running on little sleep with a newborn amplifies literally every emotion. Give yourself permission to heal.

After I had Wyatt I really dove into using food for healing by choosing filling, nutrient dense options, (with the occasional sweet treat) and I watched my body change. I FELT so much better by making simple shifts in what I was eating, and that eventually led me to earn my Bachelor’s in nutrition and now I’m working on finishing grad school to help other women make those same simple shifts. Talk about a full circle moment 💫

How did you ring in the new year? We did a “Noon Year’s Eve” with the boys yesterday complete with noisemakers and confetti poppers, then had black eyed peas today for luck 🍀🥂 Cheers to 2021 and all the blessings headed our way! Our God is faithful!
