Have you already skipped Thanksgiving and moved straight to Christmas? Not going to lie here, we have our tree up! But we’re still incorporating all things Thanksgiving by reading some books to remember why we celebrate with a big ol’ turkey and pie.
I’ve rounded up some of our favorite books about this seasonal shift and Thanksgiving with these Autumn books for kids. Don’t worry, I’ll have another list for Christmas in case you DID fast forward!

Jan Brett Classics
If you aren’t familiar with Jan Brett, her stories are beautifully illustrated and books that can be passed down in your family forever. Just imagine reading these books with your grandbabies one day. Ok, sorry- sentimental over here.
Annie and the Wild Animals – An adorable tale of a little girl who’s cat goes missing and all the animals she meets trying to find her.
The Mitten – Just some cute animals trying to keep warm.
The Snowy Nap – Precious tale of a hedgehog trying to stay awake to see all the wonders of winter instead of taking his long winter’s nap.
Lawrence in the Fall – A tiny fox discovers the wonders of fall and sharing with friends.
Sleep Tight Farm: A Farm Prepares for Winter – We LOVE this book! Beautiful illustrations and easy to understand points about how a farm slows down for winter.
A Bear for All Seasons by Kathryn Brown – Such a sweet tale of Bear and Fox learning to be grateful in all seasons.
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen – A story of a little girl who’s out in the big woods with her daddy looking for an elusive owl.
Thankful by Eileen Spinelli – This one is perfect for tiny hands since it’s a board book! It’s durable but the story is suitable for pre-school age kids.
All for Pie, Pie for All by David Martin – Great book for sharing and pie lovers of all ages!

Sharing the Bread: An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving Story by Miller & McElmurry – A rhyming story about an old school Thanksgiving. It’s a fun read with pretty illustrations!
